DATA INTEGRITY
AND OVERSIGHT

Accurate emissions data is the backbone of
effective decarbonisation. To drive meaningful
progress, we leverage advanced technology & a
dynamic GHG data management framework that
ensures accuracy, transparency & compliance.

Advanced Platform for Emissions Monitoring

A state-of-the-art cloud platform with an interactive dashboard
provides real-time tracking, analysis and reporting. This
enables data-driven decisions to reduce emissions efficiently

GHG Data Management Plan

Our GHG Data Management Plan is the foundation for precise
emissions tracking and reporting. As a dynamic framework,
it evolves with technological & regulatory updates, ensuring
accuracy and compliance. Key components are:

Data Sources and Validation

Data is collected from utility bills, sub-meters, purchase
records, and waste audits. To ensure accuracy, it undergoes
a rigorous three-tier internal validation process by our
engineering, finance, and sustainability departments

Emissions Factors Library

We maintain a comprehensive emissions factors library that
is regularly updated to reflect evolving global standards and
the latest supplier data, ensuring precise carbon calculations

OUR BASELINE

An accurate emissions baseline is a critical reference point for measuring progress toward our goals. We initially established our baseline in 2022; however, due to the impact of COVID-19, the building operated at less than 51% occupancy, leading to emissions data that did not represent typical operations. In 2023, as occupancy exceeded 80%, we re-calibrated the baseline to ensure a more accurate reflection of the building’s emissions, aligning with best practices.

The chart on the left represents ICD Brookfield Place’s baseline emissions for 2023, providing a detailed breakdown across Scopes 1, 2, and 3 categories:

  • Scope 1 emissions are minimal, reflecting low direct on-site combustion.
  • Scope 2 emissions from electricity (22.84%) and chilled water (18.41%) in landlord-controlled areas. These emissions represent the energy consumed by building operations, including cooling, lighting, and other common area services managed by the landlord.
  • Scope 3 emissions dominate our footprint, primarily from tenant energy use (40.65%), followed by purchased goods and services (10.89%) & waste generated in operations (3.89%). These emissions reflect the broader impact of building operations beyond direct control, highlighting the substantial influence of tenant behaviour and supply chain activities

OUR SCIENCE-ALIGNED
INTERIM REDUCTION
TARGETS

ICD Brookfield Place is committed to achieving net zero operational
carbon by 2030. To meet this goal, we have defined specific science-
aligned targets

3.3%

annual reduction in Scope
1 & 2 emissions

23.3%

total reduction in Scope 1
and 2 emissions by 2030

This interim target forms a critical milestone toward our broader
ambition of achieving net zero carbon across our entire footprint by
2050. Our approach aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategy
and Brookfield Asset Management’s sustainability framework

Our targets are grounded in scientific methodologies and supported by
rigorous data collection, best practices and transparent reporting. We are
dedicated to tracking and reporting our progress annually, highlighting
achievements and sharing insights into challenges addressed along the
way. As industry standards evolve, we will continuously refine our targets to
ensure they remain both relevant and impactful.

2024: SURPASSING OUR TARGETS

In 2024, we implemented a no-cost energy optimisation plan, resulting in a

16%

reduction in district
cooling demand

7%

decrease in electricity use
across common areas

These measures, discussed further in the Energy Efficiency section, directly
contributed to exceeding our Scope 1 & 2 reduction target, delivering a

5%

reduction from the
Scope 2 baseline

463

metric tonnes of GHG
emissions avoided

This performance underscores the impact of energy management in advancing carbon
reductions and sets the foundation for scaling further efficiencies in the year ahead.

While Scope 1 and 2 emissions declined, overall
emissions increased, driven by higher occupancy
and expanded activity. With the building now at 100%
occupancy (up from just over 80% at baseline), tenant-
related emissions increased by 18%.

As we move forward, we remain focused on meeting both
our short-term and long-term decarbonisation targets,
ensuring that growth and sustainability continue to
advance in parallel.
